| LbBQ Research: Be Heard Be Part of Research! |
[01 Jun 2012|08:17pm] |
|
Hi My name is Rischa and I'm a lesbian doing research in our community. This study is on marijuana use and gender in women (trans-inclusive) over the age of 18 who identify as lesbian bisexual or queer (LBQ). Getting involved in research is important to me because providers use studies like this one to make decisions about our health care. Moreover, by focusing my research on LGBTQ communities I hope to be able to create an environment where people can receive appropriate physical and mental healthcare services. You can be part of research by completing an, anonymous 25-minute survey by going to www.lbqresearch.wordpress.com. You can also to help make more women aware of this study by talking to your friends, blogging, facebooking, etc. about it. Cheers and With Pride

| Donating! |
[18 May 2012|04:09pm] |
Hey y'all...
I have a bunch of clothes/shoes that I'm cleaning out of my storage unit, and I'm looking for a good queer-friendly place to donate them. Barring that, a shelter or something that's local and needs some help. Does anyone know of anything like that? If I have to put them all out in a freebox, I will, but there's a lot and I'd prefer to know it's all going to a good cause.
Many thanks!

| Be Heard, Be Part of Research |

Hi, My name is Rischa I'm a lesbian, doing research with our community.
I am passionate about research because professionals use studies like this one to make decisions about our health care. For this study, we are looking for women (trans-community included) 18 years of age or older, who self-identify as lesbian, bisexual, queer, or questioning (LBQ). The purpose of this study is to learn about gender presentation and substance use in LBQ women.
Make sure your experiences are heard, be a part of LBQ research! You can complete a brief, anonymous 25-minute survey by going to www.lbqresearch.wordpress.com. This study had been approved by the St. John’s University IRB. Thank you for your time. Make sure your experiences are heard, be a part of LBQ research! Thank you for getting involved, and be sure to tell your friends to participate as well.

| general practitioners? |
[24 Sep 2011|01:48pm] |
So my partner is looking for a new doctor: a general practitioner who is sensitive to genderqueer issues. Doesn't have to mean that they see tons and tons of genderqueer people, but someone who's savvy enough to know terms like "binding," and not need a huge gender primer.
Suggestions?

| Meetup? |
[05 Jun 2011|08:11pm] |
Hi everyone! I'm from Philadelphia, I've never been to the West Coast, and I randomly decided to go to Portland the last week of June! I was wondering if anyone was friendly and wanted to hang out one day. I know, kind of odd, but hey, I'm only going once and I promise I'm friendly and it could be fun to meet some people and have penpals 3000 miles away after I come home =). I'm doing the following things, if anyone has any other suggestions, let me know! My name's Laila, I'm almost 24, and a lesbian. I'm not really into the club scene (at least not the Philly one--it's a hot mess of drunken slutty butchier girls who are full of drama--I never seem to have fun at the gay bars/clubs here) but I'm open to suggestions! Here's what I have on my list to do so far:
Stumptown coffee
Rose Gardens/surrounding trails
McMenamins Crystal Ballroom
Doug Fir lounge
Deshutes Brewery
Burgerville
Embers
Saturday market and farmers markets
Powell's Books
Japanese Gardens
Tasty and Sons
This is via a friend who used to live in Washington State and ventured down to Portland a few times, and also from a response from booksofadam.com when I asked him what do do there. Let me know if any of those are bad suggestions ;)
Hope to hear from people! I'm going the 27th of June and leaving super early on the 1st of July, so I'm only there for a few days. I'm staying in the Hawthorne district in a hostel and plan to rent a bike and utilize the public transport a lot ;)

| My new FTM YOUTUBE Channel! |
[19 Apr 2011|08:56pm] |
hello!
im ryan, and im ftm! yah
i just wanted to post about my new youtube channel, where im trying to set up a place for people to talk about ftm everyday issues. Ive set up a few videos already and am open to ideas to make new videos. one of the more important reasons for doing this was because i felt that the lgbt community has a way of excluding queer people of color, and being hispanic myself, i identify with this feeling. i havent seen much out there based on these issues and thought maybe this could be a place for some of that to be spoken about.
well heres the channel check it out!

| New discussion list for trans and genderqueer people in the Pacific NW |
[07 Feb 2011|09:33pm] |
Hello,
I've created a new all-inclusive mailing list specifically for trans and genderqueer people in the Pacific Northwest:
http://groups.google.com/group/trans_genderqueer_pnw
What's different about this mailing list (compared to other regional fora): * It's intended as a forum for both discussion and announcements. * It's intended for trans men, trans women, genderqueer people, and everyone else identifying as trans* or genderqueer. * It has a set of ground rules intended to encourage open and affirming communication. * It's hosted on Google Groups, a modern platform for mailing lists and discussions.
It's intended to supplement, not replace, other trans-related mailing lists and fora oriented towards the Pacific Northwest.
If you live in the PNW, please join and spread the word.

| Some help needed for a Tuesday show |

I have a show coming up this Tuesday at the Someday Lounge called "The Resurrection". More info here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=141272592598786

Anyways, the show is going to be amazing, but I am still short on a few things and wanted to know if anyone here knows of some, or can, help in any way.
I am in need of at least one more stage hand and someone who can learn the cues for the show to relay them to the sound man. As the director and myself are all IN the show itself, we cannot do that. And the sound man cannot rehearse with us because he is paid by the hour and can only make the show itself. So to reiterate, we need:
1 or 2 stage hands 1 stage (cue) manager
These people need to either be okay with volunteering their time or being okay with the pay not being a specific amount. The way I get money for the show is through the door charge only so everyone gets paid in portions. So if its a good crowd (which we are sure it's going to be) there is a lot of money to go around.
The show is on Tuesday at 9pm. Crew members would need to be there before that of course and we are hoping to rehearse extensively (or at least enough times) beforehand on Monday and Tuesday. The crew would need to be available and attend those rehearsals as well.
I hope this doesn't seem like too much to ask for but I am in desperate need!
Please contact me through my email (daniel [dot] quasar [at] gmail [dot] com)
Thank you so much for your time and I hope to here from someone soon!
P.S. here are a couple "commercials" that were filmed for the show. I hope you enjoy them. They feature a few of the cast. :)

P.P.S. Is there anyone who by chance has a projector that we could use for the show as well? Not for keeps of course. Just borrow it for the one show. Any info would be great!

| Absolut Opposes "Labeling" Of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Minorities With Their Vodka No |
[16 Aug 2010|04:25pm] |
Absolut Vodka is introducing limited edition naked bottles that do not feature the Absolut label or logo to mark the launch of its latest campaign In An ABSOLUT World There Are No Labels, an initiative which challenges prejudice against LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) minorities.
Absolut wants to challenge labels and prejudice to make the world more diverse, vibrant and respectful. You will only find a discreet and easily removed sticker with the campaign manifesto on the bottle. This will encourage you to discard your labels and look beyond the obvious...

few questions:
is this still the only queer community of Portland/Oregon? I assume so, but seems to be updated less frequently than i thought. are there any others?
also, is there a list somewhere (online) of all the gay clubs in portland and what they are like, they type of crowd they attract, or mean to attract for that matter.
uhm, that's all i have to ask.

| Kaiser gyn |
[18 Jun 2010|02:44pm] |
|
Anyone know of a trans-friendly/knowledgeable gyn at Kaiser? I have heard of Dr. Audrey Curtis, but she's a uro-gyn specialist, so they won't let me book just a check-up with her. The last gyn I went to at Kaiser was awful (Peter Miksovsky), so I'm not feeling up for just booking with a random person. Thanks in advance.
